The SEL90M28G is engineered for precision at any distance. Its optical path contains 15 elements in 11 groups, utilizing advanced Aspherical, ED (Extra-low Dispersion), and Super ED glass to virtually eliminate chromatic aberration and ensure edge-to-edge clarity. To prevent flare and ghosting, Sony’s Nano AR Coating is applied, providing high-contrast images even in challenging light. A floating focus mechanism suppresses aberrations at close-up ranges, maintaining high resolution from infinity down to its minimum focus distance. Performance is driven by a Direct Drive SSM (DDSSM) motor system, which provides the high torque necessary to move the lens's heavy focusing groups quickly and quietly. One of its most distinctive features is the sliding focus clutch: simply pull the focus ring back to instantly switch to manual focus with a physical distance scale, or push it forward for AF. Built-in Optical SteadyShot (OSS) helps stabilize handheld shots—a critical feature for high-magnification macro work. The lens is also dust and moisture-resistant, featuring an internal focus design so the physical length never changes during use.
