The design incorporates five SLD (Special Low Dispersion) elements and one aspherical element, alongside high-refractive index glass to ensure that the lens remains compact without sacrificing resolution. The result is "clinical" sharpness at the focus point, transitioning into the smooth, creamy bokeh that is essential for high-end portraiture. To ensure peak performance in any lighting, it features Sigma’s Super Multi-Layer Coating to eliminate ghosting and flare. The lens is designed for speed and professional handling. It utilizes a high-speed stepping motor optimized for both phase-detection and contrast-detection AF, making it fully compatible with Sony’s real-time Eye-AF tracking. The physical build is exceptionally robust, featuring a dust and splash-resistant structure and a water/oil-repellent front coating.
