The optical path includes an impressive array of specialized glass: one FLD, one ELD, two SLD, and two aspherical elements. This sophisticated arrangement is designed to virtually eliminate sagittal coma flare—making it excellent for astrophotography—and axial chromatic aberration, which is notoriously difficult to correct in post-processing. Sigma’s Super Multi-Layer Coating and Nano Porous Coating work together to ensure high contrast even when shooting directly into the sun. For modern shooters, the lens replaces the old bulky motor with a high-speed stepping motor, providing the near-silent and responsive autofocus required for Sony’s advanced Eye-AF and real-time tracking. The physical build is professional-grade, featuring a dust and splash-resistant structure with a water and oil-repellent coating on the front glass. It is packed with tactile controls, including a physical aperture ring with a de-click switch for filmmakers, an aperture lock switch to prevent accidental shifts into Auto, and a customizable AFL button.
