The 23mm f/1.4 DC DN is designed to be a high-performance daily driver. Its optical formula is surprisingly complex for its size, featuring 13 elements in 10 groups, including three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements and two aspherical elements. These specialized optics work to ensure that images are surgically sharp at the center from f/1.4, while keeping chromatic aberrations and "color bleeding" to an absolute minimum. Sigma’s Super Multi-Layer Coating is applied to prevent flare and ghosting, making it reliable for shooting in high-contrast or backlit street scenes. To keep the lens nimble, Sigma utilized a high-speed stepping motor and an internal focusing system. This ensures that autofocus is near-instantaneous and whisper-quiet—essential for both candid street photography and high-quality video vlogging. The build quality is premium, utilizing Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) for the barrel and a dust and splash-resistant brass mount.
